How Solid Data Storage Works Every night, you leave your computer running so the software can do all the work. At a time during the night as scheduled to suit your needs, the software will âwake upâ. It then looks around the directories and files you have nominated as important, and works out which have been changed that day and therefore will need to be backed up. The software then prepares copies of the files to send to our server by taking the changed bits, compressing them to make the transfer shorter, and encrypting them so nobody else can read them. It uses your Internet connection to dial up to the Internet and connect to our secure server. Once the server has checked to make sure your computer is the valid one, the software then transfers the encrypted and compressed copies to Solid servers. The files are checked to make sure all information was successfully sent, then a log is created so that next morning you can see that the backup was successful, and then have peace of mind that your information is safe. If you ever have the misfortune of having a disaster or an incident that leaves the information on your computers inaccessible, all you will need to do is tell your software to get your information back, and the software does the rest.
